Blessed are the pure in heart

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8

The topic for this one is pure in heart. The word for pure is καθαρός (katharos). Just as an aside, I have to say that the Greek language is very pretty. Also so is the Hebrew. God just gives good gifts to us all doesn’t He? Anyway, what this word means is clean, pure, unstained, either literally or ceremonially or spiritually. Guiltless, innocent, upright. These are all good things. When you hear the word pure you think of goodness usually. This one really hits home to me because I had a significant dream where God highlighted this verse for me. My wife has a lot of really cool dreams. I believe that God speaks through our dreams as illustrated in Joel 2:28. In Acts 2:17 when the Holy Spirit was poured out on Pentecost, Peter is quoting this:

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” Acts 2:17

Anyway, back to my wife and her dreams. I was beginning to become jealous because she gets all the really cool dreams and I was usually dreaming about ducks waddling around and stupid stuff like that. One day I was really praying, and I was telling the Lord that I was not going to leave the room till He promised me that He would visit me that night. While I was praying, I really experienced the Holy Spirit in a powerful way. I was praying through the full armor of God:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes…Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:10, 14-17

As I was praying for these to be applied to me, I was visualizing myself putting on this armor like getting dressed in the morning. When I got to the sword of the spirit, I was picturing myself holding a sword. I suddenly heard a voice say “Now!” At this I swung the sword physically. When I swung the sword, a bell rang in the room. It was a little Grandfather clock that my stepson Austin built for my wife. It has the works in it with a pendulum and a key that winds it up. I know for a fact that the clock was not wound up. It had been sitting there dormant for months and yet the bell rang. I believe this was the Holy Spirit. As I continued to pray, I asked the Lord to visit me that night.

That night I had a dream that I was on a journey, like in the Hobbit. There was a little guy, kind of like a hobbit, following behind me that was repeating over and over again. “Isaiah 55:8, Isaiah 55:8, Isaiah 55:8!” I was thinking in my head, “alright already, Isaiah 55:8!” I believe this was repeated so that I would remember it. Then as I was walking along, I saw an image like a very high-resolution hologram that had a loaf of bread, a wine goblet and a lamb sitting on a table. Written above them was Matthew 5:2,8. When I woke up, I looked up these scriptures. Isaiah 55:8 is as follows:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.” I believe that God was showing me that the way I think things should be done is not the way that He does it. This was a truly kind way of telling me that He does not think like me. I am listening Lord! Then Matthew 5:2 says: “and He began to teach them. He said:” which I think is very cool because He was telling me to listen again as if I were there when Jesus was teaching. He then says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

I want to have a pure heart now because I genuinely want to see God. What a huge blessing that will be. He tells us in Isaiah 55 that we should seek Him while He may be found. That we should call on Him while he is near. He is calling out to us to seek His face. Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God. It does not say they might see God. It says they WILL see God. Lord I pray that you would open our eyes so that we might see, open our ears that we might hear. Open the eyes of our hearts Lord Jesus!

“So, give us clean hands and give us pure hearts let us not lift our soul to another”
