“Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10
Your Kingdom come! Amen Lord. It is amazing that God chooses to use our prayers to bring His Kingdom to this earth. All of creation is groaning in anticipation of His Kingdom to return. It is illustrated in Romans 8:
“For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”
Creation longs for the return of the sons of God. Originally it was set up as a paradise and this is what it is longing to return to. When the Lord finished with the creation, He said it was exceptionally good (Genesis 1:31). God wanted us to be the caretakers of this creation that He had made. That was His will. He had done this for us, and He wanted us to make the world a better place. To make the entire earth to be like the garden that He had placed us in. When we say “your kingdom come” there is a real sense of longing for it to return. We eagerly anticipate the coming kingdom and we long for His return. We do not long for our kingdom come, but His kingdom come. We have already made a mess of things attempting to have our kingdom come. This has not really worked out for us. His people long for the King to return because He is good and thus His Kingdom is good.
Your will be done. We long for His will to be done because His will for us is only for good. His will for us is to be brought out of the darkness and into His glorious light. This is what He wants for all of us. To be delivered from the bondage of sin and death and to return to His kingdom as sons of God. This is His will. It says in Romans 12:
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2
He wants us to enter in and to become the children of God whom He intended for us to be. His goal is that all would come to the knowledge of Him and to walk in His light. He wants to bring His kingdom to this earth. That is His good and perfect will. We have tasted that the Lord is good. He sent His Son into this world to communicate what the Kingdom of Heaven was all about. Jesus tells us to love one another. This goes beyond just loving people that we get along with, but to love our enemies. This was a radical message to the people that He was sharing this with. He wants us to be the Salt of the Earth. Salt was a preservative. He wants us to be ambassadors of Christ. To represent! He wants us to be a City set on a Hill. To be a beacon of light to the world around us. This is His will, that we love each other in word and deed. He tells us that we should owe nothing to anyone except this debt of love.
On earth as it is in Heaven. We want to bring the Kingdom of heaven to this earth. God has done that by sending His Son. He also gave us The Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended to sit at the right hand of the throne of God. How can we tangibly bring the Kingdom of God to this earth? Through the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit. Only the Holy Spirit can convict the heart of man and cause him to come to repentance. Like it says in Zechariah 4:6 “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts. This reminds me that there ARE giants in the land that we face on a daily basis and mountains that must be moved in order for His kingdom to be brought to this earth. I think that He uses these circumstances—trials and tribulations--to teach us how to become dependent on Him. It is only when we realize that we DON’T have the power in and of ourselves to accomplish anything, that we can truly accomplish all things. There are countless examples of God working His miracles through men who were not super-hero’s. For instance, when Gideon defeated the Midianites with a rag tag band of 300 men or young David defeating Goliath with just a sling and a stone. The point is that we can do all things through Him who strengthens us. It is only in surrendering in humility to the Author and Perfecter of our faith that we truly become strong—because it is not by might nor by power, but by His Spirit. Let us pray that His kingdom will be brought to this earth. Yes Lord, Come--Maranatha. God Bless you!
